Week of October 2, 2017
Students work on their Book study project. They use their reading journals to construct written responses to various writing prompts. They create visual graphic organizers to show their understanding of the concepts discussed in the book.
Book discussion is scheduled for Oct. 5. Students' journals are due .Oct. 5, 2017.
October 6: Students started anew unit. As a part of this unit student will read narrative fiction and nonfiction. The features of narrative fiction and nonfiction were reviewed today as the students read short reading passages.
Week of October 9,2017
Students work on content vocabulary that is used within the unit.
Students read a narrative fiction story American Names by Tony Johnson and completed reading comprehension activities.
Week of October 16, 2017
Students finished reading the story American Names.
This week students are working on their Critical Thinking skills and analyzing the story:
Monday: Analyze Text Structure: Plot. Complete a Plot Diagram
Tuesday: Analyze the Main Character and show how he changes.
Complete a Character Chart
Wednesday: Write a summary. Summary Structure and Rubric Overview. Students use their Plot diagram and Character Chart
to write a summary. Assignments are posted in Google Classroom.
Thursday: Students complete their summary and any unfinished work.
Week of October 2- work on your journal or come to Smart Block.
Week of October 16- work on your plot diagram, character chart and your summary. Check the assignment in Google Classroom.
