Exit Criteria
Results from the annual ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 test are used in determining whether a student may exit EL identification. Students must meet the Comprehensive Objective Composite (COC) set by the state of North Carolina to exit EL status.
The COC defines the attainment of English language proficiency by a student
reaching an overall composite score of 4.8 or above,
with at least a 4.0 on the reading domain
at least a 4.0 on the writing domain for kindergarten and tiers B and C in grades 1–12.

General Notice to Parents Regarding English Language/ ACCESS Testing
All students currently designated as limited English proficient (LEP) will be administered the North Carolina test of English language ability, the ACCESS. The annual ACCESS testing window is January 28 – March 8, 2019.
ACCESS Test Resources
The Test Demo is a series of videos that explain how students will take the online test and interact with the test platform.
The Sample Items provide students, parents, and educators with a better understanding of the ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 assessment that is based on the WIDA English Language Development (ELD) Standards. These are not items that will appear on the operational test, but they provide a close proximity to the items that students will see on the test. To access and view the Sample Items, a Chrome browser must be used.
September and October,2018:
LEP plans are finalized and are sent home together with Continued Identification Letter.
